Today prompt for National Health Blog Post Month is: “Book report. What’s your favorite book and how can you tie it to your health or life?”
As you all well know by now, I love reading and books. I have many favorite books, but the one that jumped out in my mind is a response to this prompt is the Pulitzer Prize Winning book The Color Purple by Alice Walker.
You may be more familiar with the story through the wonderful movie starring Whoopi Goldberg. It’s told through letters back and forth between two sisters. Although they experience unspeakable torment throughout their lives, their devotion to one another carries them through those hard times.
Living with chronic illness is hard, and sometimes it feels terribly unfair and cruel. But when you have close family and friends who are there to support you, cheer you on and show concern for your well being, it’s possible to push through the most difficult times and even experience great joy.
The Color Purple is truly all about perseverance and is a great reminder that human beings are strong and can overcome much more than we might think we can handle.
