Next Up: Trying Sansert for Migraine Prevention

I had about 10 really good, migraine free days after I got Botox on December 31st, but I’m back to my old migraine pattern.

I had an appointment with my local neurologist Dr. C yesterday. He wants me to try a preventative medication called Sansert (Methysergide) that I’m not too familiar with.

Sansert has some really scary potential side effects. I will have to go off it for 1 month after 6 months even if it helps. I will also need to have chest X-rays and abdominal scans were done after 6 months because it can make you develop fibrous growth type things. That is rare, but obviously a scary prospect.

I was really impressed with today’s appointment because after he initially brought up this medication he took at least five minutes to do some research and brought back information to help explain why he thought it was a good option, the efficacy, the side effects and the plan for using it. He was very thorough, informative and patient with my questions. So many doctors I’ve had are not that way at all.

I think I have decided I will try it, but I haven’t filled the prescription yet. I plan to do that today so I can get started and give it a shot.
